Embracing Change: My Journey to a Bold New Hairstyle
As far back as I can remember, I had long hair. It was always the topic of conversation. My hair was first straightened with a hot comb, then permed. The hair on my head grows like a weed; it's luscious and beautiful. Over time, my hair became part of my identity. I mean, what girl wouldn't want long hair? Our social status and beauty often depend on it.
However, after my mom's death, my hair felt heavy and burdensome. The weight of it no longer felt like a crown but a reminder of expectations I no more wanted to meet. I realized I didn't need to uphold society's definition of beauty anymore. So, one hot afternoon, I chopped myself.
Although I've cut my hair before, this time it was different. I wanted a mohawk—something fun, low maintenance, and edgy. My attempt with scissors wasn't entirely successful. Some might argue that going to a barber is a better option, and they might be right. But for me, this was a personal journey.
I've always maintained my hair myself, so nothing really has changed in that regard. Determined to do it right, I bought a WAHL cordless hair trimmer on Amazon. After watching a couple of tutorial videos, I felt ready to try again.
WAHL trimmers come with different guards, combs, oil to lubricate the blade, and even scissors. My trim wasn't flawless, but I'll improve with time. The experience was empowering. I felt liberation and control.
Overall, it was a positive experience. WAHL trimmers made the process straightforward and manageable. While I might return to a barber in the future to perfect my cut, I'm proud of taking this step on my own. My hair no longer feels like a burden but a bold statement of who I am—a woman unafraid to redefine beauty on her own terms.
